How to "unpaint" a fireplace

Posted by Melanie N. on July 7th, 2003 06:03 AM

We just bought a house with a fireplace that is painted. The bottom half is painted black, the upper half above the mantle is white. We'd like to get it back to the original brick. Any ideas? The paint looks pretty thick. I'm also worried about the effects of using a paint remover. Will this cause a dangerous reaction the first time we build a fire? Thanks!
Mel
