Ceiling fan switches Posted by Lisa Phillips on October 4th, 1999 05:44 PM In reply to ceiling fan switch by Kevin Lewis on July 9th, 1998 11:00 AM [Go to top of thread]
Kevin, I too thought I would replace the switch for my ailing fan. I purchased the replacement and installed it according to the printed instructions. While I was working on the fan I decided to take it down and clean it and grease the bearings. Easy enough. Well, when I rehung the fan and turned it on - nothing. I was floored. The problem - I didn't tighten the top bolts enough. (My fan is the old type that has a decorative cover over the spinning motor) When I put the decorative cover back on it rubed the motor and caused it to seize. Everything works, now...that is. Except one thing. I bought a 3 speed/5-8 wire switch assuming my fan was infact 3 speed. (it is 6 wire but had never worked properly). But, only the "tornado" high speed works. So, I have Hi,off, off, off for speed control. Any suggestions? Thanks! Lisa Phillips
