casablanca fan variable speed control (rheostat)

variable speed control on fan works 'all or nothing"; I need a replacement control ?rheostat. The fan is about 15 yr old or so. serial no JR18225 ca 4002. Thanks for your help
the control plugs in to a circuit board easily or I can wire it
