Yet Another Vinyl Floor Over Hardwood Question Posted by Branwen C on October 6th, 1999 06:54 AM
We pulled up harvest gold shag carpeting to discover a lovely octaganal brick vinyl floor. Fortunately, while most of it was not glued to the wood (lotsa and lotsa of little staples), there are four major strips and some smaller areas that are stuck tight to the wood. Most of the backing has remained on the adhesive, but we still tried Citristrip adhesive remove. It did...OK (2 on a scale of 1 to 5), What we found worked best was to slightly dampen the backing, put a cloth over it, then iron the heck out of it for a couple of minutes. The adhesive and backing came right up. Question: Is there any reason we should NOT do this? The wood hasn't blistered, and we will be re-doing the finish anyway. Dumb question, but when you're new to this do-it-yourselfer thing...well..
