I have painted over the panneling in my den and I have also painted over the panneling at a friend's house. Both times it came out great. The trick is to do it right. 1. Clean the panneling very good to get all the dirt off. 2. Paint one or two coats of Stain killer ( I used Kiltz) 3. One or two coats of your favorite paint. If you don't want to see the lines in panneling you will have to put spackle in them after the stain keller. This may requir several coats and is a lot of work.
