hello terrigirl. i used to live in harlingen and i does get hot down there. how much rain did you all get from the hurricane? hope falcon and amistad got some water. about the glass door, my guess it the glass will act like a magnifier, and the door will get much hotter than before and make your front room hotter. if your door doesnt get direct afternoon sun, i probably wouldnt worry too much. you will get opinions from others with more knowledge if you wait a day or two.
