I have a 20+ year old home in the Northern Virginia area and would like to replace my double hung sash windows. The house is a condminium, where all exterior trim is repainted every five years (I have no control over quality of work). My problem is confusion over which material is best for the replacement. I have read that vinyl warps if subjected to severe temerature changes, which we have. Also it can't be painted. Wood is obviously excellent if properly maintained, but since I can't control the quality of care on the exterior, I have tended to shy away from that. In my area, I have found fiberglass windows in the same price range as wood. These would seem to be the ideal combination... low maintenance, paintable, high quality. Can anyone give me any words of wisdom... on which to choose? Thanks
