In reply to Linoleum Removal by Bruce on January 18th, 1998 04:23 PM [Go to top of thread]

I just removed linoleum from a concrete slab. The linoleum was laid down in 1953. I had it tested for asbestos and the primary layer tested positive for 10-12%. I called an abatement company and they gave me some great tips.
1. 10-12% in layer 1 isn't too much of an issue if you do it this way
2. Use a mat knife to cut the heck out of it. Cut at an angle so it creates mini-flaps
3. Use caulk to create 2x2 ft squares - it keeps the water from running.
4. Soak the floor overnight.
5. In the morning use a scraper (long pole, flat blade)to scrape it off. This worked like a charm.
