I have had replacement windows put in a few years ago and went with vinyl. I have had no problems with them and they make it throught the harsh northern Illinois winters with no problems. I find them very ecenomical and easy to install. As far as the outside trim around the windows, talk with the window contractor that you purchase the windows from. They have more than likely have had the same situation in the past and may have some suggestions for you. Good luck.
