In reply to Do I need an extra AC air return? by C. Sweeney on July 21st, 2003 12:44 AM [Go to top of thread]

There are several things to check first. Since ducts go through the attic, it is essential that they be intact and well insulated. It would be worth checking. Make sure the attic space is well ventilated to prevent excessive heat buildup above your bedroom. You indicate that there are two vents to the room, but are there two ducts? You need to move enough air from the AC air handler to your room. You may not be able to get the results from a split duct to two registers.

If you have access to the attic, a return duct will be inexpensive. Another option that works well is a ceiling fan. The room will feel cooler and will mix the cooler air better with a ceiling fan.
