Hi, Chris and John2000. I guess that it is my arguementative day. Cedar mills great and lasts about as long as pressure treated, even unpainted. With regular painting, it should last about forever. Since most cedar is sold for siding, it normally comes rough one side and smooth one side but it is 7/8" thick. Most lumber yards that carry cedar will plane both sides smooth--down to 3/4"-- for a nominal charge.
