In reply to double glass window replacement by Jan on June 7th, 2001 12:36 AM [Go to top of thread]

I work for a cabinet maker and in the process of replacing damaged storm windows for my house. The storm windows are 36"W x 58"H divided by horizontal muntin bar in the middle. My idea is to make the frames with fixed glass pane on the upper and removable screen and glass pane on the lower. This is so I can install the screen in the summer and glass pane in the winter.

The insect screening is not a problem to make. But the glass panel is what I'm not sure about. Is it possible to purchase double insulated glass panes as single units?

I'm exploring this route basically for two reasons, (1) to preserve the look of my Dutch Colonial and (2) to save money for other house projects. So, is my idea workable? Comments please.
