Auxillary Electrical Box

Posted by Dave225 on July 22nd, 2003 09:33 AM

I have some 20 amp outlets in my basement - but not enough. Or I should say, not conveniently located. I'd like to add a few more, but I'm out of room on the main panel. I could buy some of the smaller breakers, but I have some of the bigger ones lying around already, so I'd like to use them. Also, I don't want ot add more wires into that panel..

Anyway - I want to add a panel to hold all of the basement circuits. I'm not sure how to do that. If I put four 20amp breakers in this secondary panel, what do I run from the main panel to the secondary? What guage wire? What rating on the breaker?

(I don't think that there is a problem with overloading the box. I never use more than one outlet at a time in the basement - I'm just doing this instead of extension cords.)
