Cutting Formica "depends on thickness of material".

Nuri, Hi".
For cutting formica,it is always best to saw on a
table saw and with a very fine tooth blade saw, keeping
the blade as low as possible.
When cutting formica, allow 1/8" or 1/4" more than
the size you want,.
When gluing formica, glue both the surface and the
formica, wait till the glue is finger dry ( dry to your fingers)
Alway do the edges first, leaving that 1/8" or 1/4" above the
surface,then plane off what you dont need, (the edge of the formica
should be level with the surface of what you are doing, leave the sharp
edge).
The main surface ( top area) that you will cover is the next job.
cut some laths (strips of plained wood about 1"x 1" or somthing like that
these are tobe placed about every 12" across the top surface and let them
hang over on both side of your work area. ( but do nothing with them yet,)
Now, glue both surfaces (formica and top ) wait till finger dry, then place
the laths that you have made over the surface (letting them hang over each end/side)
place the glued formica on top of the lathes (now you can move the formica into the
place) "remember" the laths should be about 12" as I have said.
When you are happy that the formica is overhanging on each side the 1/8" or 1/4" then
carefully remove the center lath, and gently pushing the formica into contact with the
surface, then remove the next lath, and push the formica onto the surface and so on..
till the formica is in contact with the surface, take a small block of wood and gently
tap with a hammer the surface of the formica ( this is to remove any air bubbles that
are traped under the formica.
Then plane/file the overhanging formica till you are happy with the finish...
PS: do this work with all the windows/doors open, the glue has a strong smell).
