painting exterior: oil or latex?

The T-120 (?, Reversed cedar siding) was stained more than 8 years ago in a Glidden oil stain. It has held up BEAUTIFULLY! I desire the same longevity.

I am hiring a good painter but need to purchase own supplies for peace of mind: Which stain would be best to apply and last another 8 or so years, at least?? I do not want to be forced into vinyl siding for maintainence reasons. Thanks so much!
