door jambs and moulding

Thank you very much.
not only is the moulding ribbon grade mahogony but also the
baseboards are mahogonay. The doors, jambs, mouldings, and
basebords are stained (dark brown) and it appears to have
a coat of varnish (satin) over the stain. Is there such a
thing like a stain remover? I like the suggestion on punching the nails into the jamb or
stud. If I took the option of painting everything ---- would I need
to strip the varnish and stain? Once again, thank you very much.
