Most of the battery powered backup sump pumps on the market copy each other and add a bell or a whistle to set them apart. Base Products Corp in Buffalo NY has re-defined the backup sump pump. The philosophy they use is this: backup sump pumps sit there not doing anything until a problem arises. Then, if the pump has been sitting in the water getting all full of crud and debris, it tries to turn on, but can't do the job. Instead, Basepump, the water powered system, and Hydropump, the battery powered system, are mounted outside of the sump. They stay clean and away from the water. When they have to go on, they are truly ready and remove water very well. Even in narrow sumps, because they are not in the pit, they are easy to install and don't interfere with the main pump. Both come with water alarms and most everything needed to install. Both come in residential and commercial sizes. See them at www.basepump.com.
