carlite plastering

Got any clues why my plastering has blown after about 10years on the kitchen wall?
The coocker is against this wall and some cable and metal shielsing were plastered over.
The plaster has 'blown' and seems to have permanently expanded leaving a gap between the blockwork wall and the carlite plaster of about half an inch.
I'm going to knock it all off and re-plaster with carlite bonding and thistle finish coat.
Any comments please?
Bill
