Replacing roof rafters or choose metal roof

Contractors are advising to shimmy new 2x6x16 side by side the existing sagging rafters. Concerns are the excess weight and if this will really solve the sagging rafters in the long term. In addition, replace all decking with 1/2 inch plywood in lieu of 3/8.
The second suggestions is to go metal roofing that would not weigh as much and shimmy from the top of rafters. However, I do not really understand the pros and cons of metal roofing except additional insulation in the attic.
Please help so I can make a good, solid home improvement.
