Lowering a basement floor

Posted by Dale on July 29th, 2003 09:22 AM

I have a 7 yo house with a full unfinished basement. I fiquure that if I drywall the ceiling I could get a 7' 7" ceiling which would be OK. I would like to build a proper home theater down there an was wondering what the repercussions would be if I cut out a 16' X 20' section of the floor and lowered it 1' sloping to 3' over the 20' distance. I have never had water problems and do not live in a flood plane. I believe I have a drain tile system under the house and understand I should probably relocate the sump pump to the lowest point in the floor. If anyone knows how to do this or a reason not to please let me know.
