BASEMENT WALLS CRACKING ON NEW HOME Posted by JENNIFER CHRISTIAN on July 29th, 2003 01:41 PM In reply to fixing cracks in cement block basement wall by charles on May 27th, 2003 12:37 PM [Go to top of thread]
PLEASE HELP! We are building a new home. Yesterday when the backfilling of the dirt around our basement was done, it caused a long horizontal crack (about 28 feet on the back wall and 13 feet on the the side wall). Our builder has boards bracing up the walls. He said he would fill with cement and rebarb, that it was common and not to worry about it. We are in a state of panic, because we're worried our new home will have permanent structural damage or at a minimum water leakage in the finished part of our basement. What is the proper procedure for fixing this problem, and will our home be structurally sound afterword?
Thanks,
Jennifer in Alabama
