I am installing a vinyl replacement window. Unfortunately The trimmer piece that goes from sash to sash vertically was installed just like the "King" 2x4 from bottom to the header so I cant make the fram an inch wider without removing it.Can I just remove part of the 2x4? Ive been told I dont need to caulk the new window just frame it in with 1x1 and a little caulk around the frames??? I live at 6700 ft in big bear california so it gets cold here. Also why is the interior edge of the window have a small ridge on it? Whouldnt it go in easier if it was flush to the wide lip you use to attach the window to the frame?
