how do i fix a hole in my drywall

I'm no pro, or by any means a handyman, but I fixed
a small hole in my stairwell.

I stuck newspaper into the hole, got spakel,
spread it as thin as possible but don't be
a miser bout it. Sand where you put the spakel
with 220 sand paper, respakel and then paint.

I know this is kinda ghetto but it works...
