I hope this helps! I found a site which says to do this:
~Take a plastic cup and add about an inch of cider vinegar. Next, place a piece of plastic (Saran-type) wrap over it and secure it with a rubberband. Poke small holes in it with a skewer or fork. Several in number is all you need, but the key is to make the holes small enough that the flies can crawl in but not back out. Place it next to the area and watch them head right to it.
My understanding is that both the fruit and "sewer" flies are attracted to methane, which apparently is not only released from fruit and whatnot as part of the ripening stage, but also seems to eminate from our sewer/piping systems in higher levels during the summer times. This could explain the tendency for these flies to congregate around sinks, huh?
