Kitchen Cabinet Door Surface

The doors on my kitchen cabinets feel stickey, especially when it is humid out. I have tried many different cleaning and scrubbing agents but, I can't get rid of the stickiness.
The finish on the surface is varnish.
Could the varnish be breaking down and need to be stripped and redone? Or is there a miracle product that I should try first.
Help! I feel like anyone touching them thinks they are just never cleaned...it's embarrassing.
