Self-adhesive tiles on basement floor - big mistake, HELP!

Hi there, I am a first time home owner and decided to replace my basement floor with the most inexpensive stuff I could find (self-adhesive tiles). I pulled up all the old tiles, which left a sticky mess (old glue)and I just slapped the new tiles on top (I know, BIG mistake!). For the first couple of weeks, it looked great. Now ALL of the tiles are lifting up (especially the corners). Tiles are now damaged (chipped corners) and I tried buying some glue and glueing the corners down - with no luck. I was told that it will eventually stick in the winter (less moisture), but I am skeptical. ANY SUGGESTIONS OUT THERE??? This was a redecorating nightmare and in hindsight, I should have just slapped the tiles on top of the old ones. Should I just bite the bullet and pull up these ones too? ANY help would be MUCH appreciated .. thanks.
