If the tile appears to soak up water, it was not sealed or sealed correctly, most penetrating sealers when applied correctly will stop water penetration, you apparently bought an unglazed tile, which was a little mistaken, but a good sealer will aleiviate the problem. Is this a saltillo tile or a true ceramic?
