Ragging is a wonderful technique that is very easy. I actually prefer raggin off to ragging on, which means that I apply the paint to the surface, then use the rag to remove paint- gives a much more subtle finish. If you have a Home Depot nearby, they have brochures which describe every kind of faux finish you can do. I do have to admit I have never tried it over paneling though.
