Have the drain cleaned with a snake. Install a lint catcher on the discharge hose of the washing machine. The smell could be a result of a broken line, or the trap not holding it's seal. Eventually your going to have to replace the trap, and the drain line. The sooner the better, from what you mentioned in your post. Good luck!
