Use no chemicals. This is what we found. Once it is dry completely, use a stiff bristle brush, but not wire. It should then break into powder which should be easy to vacuum up. A wire brush will tear up the carpet. It will take a bit of scrubbing, but we were able to save our carpet with this technique (and our daughter’s allowance!) Good luck.
