The secret is to use a bonding agent with the texture ...........LIQUID LATEX.......You'll find it with the plaster or concrete at the HomeCenter........Latex ad-mix......."Milk".........
Still a good idea to rough up the surface........and clean.........Rinse off the TSP if used..........then:
BEFORE applying the texture......Paint the walls with the thin liquid ad-mix "straight" from the jug........It doesn't even need to dry..........splash a little in the texture mix to add a little strength to the mix......then texture like before..........
