blown-in insulation

Posted by Dale on August 11th, 2003 09:00 AM

anyone have any tips for using an insulation blower to fill in wall cavaties, which I wish to do in my attached garage? The exterior is vinyl siding. The wall cavaties are 10 foot tall and probably (though I haven't determined for sure yet) 3 1/2 in. deep (i.e., probably 2X4 framing) and probably 16 OC, though they might be 24 OC. I assume a hole in the top of each cavity will be required. How well does the blown-in settle and seal? Vapor barrier needed, and if so how is that installed? The walls are currently finished nicely with drywall and I do not wish to remove and re-do that to put up fiberglass batts, if it can be avoided. All advice appreciated.
