My house was built in the 1940's. Like us women do I want a change. The biggest problem is finding the right color. One minute I think I found it and when buying a quart and painting a small patch and realizing not what it looks like in the picture.

But my biggest problem on what to do before painting? Should I wash it down, scrape any paint peeling, and what should I use to patch any cracks? Please let me know. Would like to have this completed before Labor Day. Thank you for any advice you can give. One other question, should I use flat or semi gloss latex paint. Thanks
