We have been removing old wall paper and found it helpful to buy a wall paper remover scouring tool (it pokes holes in the wall paper) and then you spray a mixture of vinegar & water onto the punctured wall paper. Make sure it gets good & wet, it will make the adhesive on the back of the paper peel right up.
