Did you talk to the inspector? Posted by Jason on August 12th, 2003 05:06 PM In reply to on to building by Matthew on August 11th, 2003 12:22 PM [Go to top of thread]
Greetings Matthew,
Would it be fair to say that you and your buddies are between 10 and 14 years old? (That's about when I built my clubhouse.)
Depending on how big the clubhouse is going to be, depends on what you want to build it out of.
Is it going to have a floor? If so, you would build that first, then the walls, and lastly the roof.
Go to a local lumberyard and explain what you would like to do. Ask if you can use the wood in the scrap box that most yards have now.
You will want plywood or OSB board for the walls, 2 X 4's for framing, and 2 X 6's for the floor joist.
If you have a local dump or transfer station, you might be able to get some materials there, (wood, hasps, hinges,) bring a hammer and screw drivers but, first, ask.
You will need some hinges for the door (and maybe the windows). We cut out openings for the windows and used plywood with two hinges at the top to open the windows. We used a hasp on the inside to lock the windows when we were not there.
You might also want to go to any construction sites in your area and ask the foreman if you can have any scraps they have. You might be able to pick up the nails you will need off the ground.
You sound like you guys are pretty motivated so, you should probably should go to the library and check out a book on basic building. The most important thing is the planning so you will know what you will need to do.
But most important, Check with the inspector to make sure that after you build it, you won't have to tear it down!
Good luck,
Jason
Ps.. at a risk of sounding sexist, get a sign that says " No girls allowed". You will be putting up curtains before you know it! Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
