1950's era tile

I have a house built in 1955, with original tile backsplash and countertop. The backsplash and the tile edging the countertop are in great shape (shiny rich mocha color). The countertop, however, needs to be replaced or refurbished (it's a mottled, slightly textured lighter mocha color). 2 questions: (1) can the countertop tiles be removed without damaging the raised border tiles and (2) anyone know of a source for original 1950's era tile or replicas?
