T-111 siding versus alternative prices and labor to install

I am having a house built soon and the contractor wants to use T-111 siding over a concrete block structure two story to make it look like a country house. I cannot find anyone who has anything good to say about T-111 wood siding so I would rather use a synthetic siding like aluminum or vinyl.

Is the cost for labor and materials about the same between T-111 and aluminum/vinyl siding? I want to be able to go to my builder and discuss this with some information in my hands...Plus I do not want to be replacing or repairing my siding in 5 to 8 years which seems to be about the maximum life of T-111 siding no matter how well you prime paint and/or prepare and fiddle with it...

Any information would be appreciated. The house will be built in the Deland Florida (Stetson University) area...

Thanks very much...Dave
