I own 2 of them and they have been installed for 10 (yes 10) years. The only problems I have had are:
(1) I have had to replace the battery in the remote once (the fan had stopped working)
(2) The cat stepped on the remote while we were away and started the fan up. We now keep the remote in a drawer while we are gone.
Perhaps the battery is bad in the remote??
