The Consumer Product Safety Commision recommends only two 100% safe repairs for "old technology" aluminum wiring. The first of course, is rewiring. This is the most expensive, and almost always results in extensive drywall damage, and paint repair. The second is the use of the COPALUM SYSTEM. This is a crimp connector installed with a special tool that applies 10,000 lbs. of pressure, and eliminates the possibility of oxidation or galvanic corrosion. No-LOX, or Deoxidizer/Inhibitor according to testing by the Wright Malta Corporation, can igintie and burn freely (their terms)when used in an aluminum to aluminum connection. The Consumer Product Safety Commission had also issued a statement against the use of the "special" wire nuts, availible at your local Home Depot, or Hardware store. There are only 35 certified contractors in the U.S. trained in the COPALUM SYSTEM. John Waters Electric is certified, and will travel within the tri-state area to do projects of this type.
