When a house is in really bad shape, there are a couple of considerations. First, is the foundation sound? If the answer is yes, then is the basic structure sound and will it last for another 30-50 years? If the answer is still yes, then the decision point gets more vague, but appearances always have a value in the marketplace. I'd suggest making sure the insulation is appropriate in the walls and attic, then I'd put windows and siding on it along with a new roof, if needed. After these things are done, at least the house will look good from the street.
The other persons suggestion to call a contractor is good, but unfortunately, contractors usually try to make a buck. If the house is in real bad shape, an inspection service, though costly may be the cheapest way to find out what really needs to be done. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
