I have done extensive research on this. Apparently, Bleach is not an effective or lasting killer of mold and mold spores. Bleach is good only for changing the color of the mold.

I realized this when I used Straight bleach in my bathroom & 2 weeks later the mold & mildew was back.

The ion structure prevents chlorine from penetrating into porous materials---IT JUST STAYS ON THE OUTSIDE SURFACE, but mold has enzyme roots growing inside the porous construction materails. and

Chlorine Bleach is NOT registered with the EPA to kill mold.

Quaterary Ammonium compounds (i.e. Benzalkonium Chloride)found in COVERAGE PLUS DISINFECTANT are more effective at killing molds. However, you need to wear tight-fitting, chemical splash safety eye goggles, a professional type breathing mask to protect you against breathing vapors and small mold spores. The painter's dust masks are NOT effective.
You will also need rubber gloves, and a Dupont Tyvek protective, one-piece coverall with hood and shoe covers. This is serious stuff people.

If you'd like the non-toxic approach; controlling the humidity in the air will help to keep mildew from growing. Bathrooms above 60% humidity level enables mold to grow.

During and after tub baths and showers, you should be running an exhaust fan that exhausts the humid bathroom air directly to the outside for at least 15 minutes.

Use a dehumidifier.

You can also increase the temperature & light in your bathroom to help in the prevention of mold growth

When you have killed all the mold/mildew you can purchase special paint or add special paint additives to inhibit their growth.

Hope this helps.
