I recently purchased a house and I'm being told that the wiring that is apparent throughout the basement and running through the house has a covering around it that is asbestos. The home was built in 1964 and I'm just enquiring if this is accurate what can be done about it. My guess is that the wiring in the walls, if undisturbed, will be realtively safe, but what about the exposed wiring in the basement. I would like to finish it off some day, but will it be safe to be down there for long periods of time. The wirirng itself is almost 40 years old..won't it start to breakdown? Thanks
