replacing rotten rafter tails?

Posted by Carrie Maresh on August 23rd, 2003 12:43 AM

We recently bought a used triple wide manufactured home and it needs a new roof among other things. My question is, some of the rafter tails are rotten and need to be replaced is it ok to splice in new tails after cutting the rotten ones out up to the good wood? Or would it be advisable to replace the entire rafter? Any help would be appreciated as the rot is causing damage to the ceiling and and exterior wall of the house.
Thanks in advance,
Carrie
