I have seen at several home stores, kits which provide all the metal parts for hinges, locks AND cross-bracing, to build a gate. They come with all the diagrams to build a gate just the size you need. All you do is saw the wood, and assemble. The pictures they provide will help you more than I or anyone else could provide you here in text, and the cost of the kits is reasonable. There is also, of course, the option of buying a redi-made unit, more expensive, and probably not as fun! Good luck
