I see power drywall sanders advertised but have never used one, nor have I seen one used. I use the old hand sander. I am afraid that they would be too aggressive.
The kind I use is a special drywall sander that accepts die-cut sheets of silicon carbide paper (black), and these are readily available at home centers for a reasonable price. You can also use the sanding screen material, but I never do.
The secret is to do the taping well enough that you need little sanding. Unfortunately, in the repair work I do, that is easier said than done. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
