Leaking Main Floor Ceiling

My main floor ceiling was leaking during or right after the toilet and/or bath tube had been used. The tube had been filled and the toilet flushed. The bathroom is on the top floor right above the dinning room area. I noticed 3 wet spots on the ceiling and a poddle of water on the dinning room table later on in that evening. I am about to call a plumbler to have it looked at. In the meant time the bathroom is not being used. Can any body give me any ideas of what the problem can be, so I have an idea of what to expect from the plumbler? Also note that no part of the bathroom floor was wet, not even around the toilet base. Thank you!
