Keep the %RH in the basement <50%RH. Get a %RH meter Wal-Mart, $15. To keep a basement mold free, you need 1 pint of dehumidification per 20 sq.ft. of total basement space. Check EPA web site for Energy Star rating on capacity and efficiency. Check Santa Fe and Friedrich 65.
