The relative humidity in the living room where I am typing this is 62%. Should I close the window or run the dehumidifier out on the front porch so it will dehumidify the world?

Our RH will move between 40-60% in the winter and our house is not sealed well. This translates to about 12-14 % equilibrum moisture content in wood. This would be a much better test but a meter that is accurate enough for this type of testing costs a minimum of $200. If you know someone that does a lot of wood sawing or shaping, you might see if you could borrow a meter from them.
