Greetings Ann,

What this window is made for is to fit in where the old sashes were. They would be screwed at the top, middle, and bottom of the side of the window.

If you intended for this to be for a new opening, you would bring the sides of the window flush to the outside sheathing and install an outside window casing all the way around the window, (picture framing it). Make sure you caulk all the way around the window as well.

There is a chance that you might be able to buy, from the manufacturer, a nail flange kit.

Where did you get the window?

It sounds like someone may have led you a stray.

Good luck,
Jason
