Slap 'er down agin, Paw Posted by Rev. Bob A. Barnes on September 15th, 2003 10:02 AM In reply to Slap her down again Paw by Winnie Dioherty on January 16th, 2003 01:36 PM [Go to top of thread]
The other day something (I don't remember what) was said on the radio that reminded me of this old song. I heard it in the forties by one of the comic country girl singers first, then later on by Arthur Godfrey. I, too, am looking for the words.
As I remember, it starts out about sister taking up with a non-local boy. "He was a city slicker, with city slickin' ways."
Other remembered snatches: "Now Paw and Maw got so durned mad . . . " And the chorus:
"Slap 'er down agin. Paw.
Slap 'er down agin!
Make 'er tell us more, Paw,
Tell us where she's been.
We don't want the neighbors
Talkin' 'bout our kin,
So slap 'er down agin, Paw.
Slap 'er down agin!" Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
